Espargos, July 7 (Inforpress) – The Mayor of Sal, Júlio Lopes, said Thursday that the municipality is “proud” to promote the First Edition of the World Literary Festival of Sal, literary meeting “never” carried out in Cabo Verde.
“Not only for the number of participants but also for their international resonance. The objective is to reflect and debate on new literary works and the strategies for the internationalization of writers, not only the Cabo Verdeans but all those who participate in it,” he stressed in his opening speech, witnessed by the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, who also participates in the event as a writer.
In turn, José Luís Peixoto, curator of the International Literary Festival, thanked the sponsors of the project, guests who traveled this distance (…) said that the presence of the public, from Sal, visitors from different islands of the country and from various parts of the world is the “prestige of this dream” that from now on dream all together.
In this inaugural celebration of international literature, which honors the writer José Saramago – the only Nobel of Portuguese literature – and the poet Corsino Fortes – founder and first president of the Cabo Verdean Academy of Letters, 50 writers from different parts participate, there are ten Cabo Verdean authors among scholars, translators and mediators of World Literature.
