WHO enables lusophone Africa representatives to evaluate the International Health Regulations

Praia, Aug 23 (Inforpress) – Representatives of the Ministries of Health of Portuguese-speaking African countries are meeting in the City of Praia at a workshop on joint external evaluation in the framework of monitoring and evaluation of the International Health Regulations (IHR).

The event is promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), which, as co-ordinator, wants, together with partners, to expand knowledge on the IHR assessment process and to help countries develop their capacities for a better contribution to safety global health.

According to the WHO representative in Cabo Verde, Mariano Salazar Castellón, through the IHR countries (all WHO members) agreed to develop their capacities to detect, evaluate and report public health events.

Among other aspects, the IHR includes specific measures at ports, airports and borders to limit the spread of health risks to neighboring countries and to avoid unjustified travel and trade restrictions.
