Mindelo, Aug 7 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Maritime Economy, José Gonçalves, today assured that the proposal on modernization of fishing legislation, presented today to the National Maritime Economy Council, will be presented at the Parliament this year for approval.
The ruler was speaking to reporters in Mindelo during the first meeting of the National Maritime Economy Council, which ends this afternoon, praising the role of the new law, which, he added, will bring a “new direction” to the fishing sector in Cabo Verde.
It’s a New Basic Fisheries Law, which, after five meetings of discussion and collection of contributions at various levels, is ready and should enter this year in Parliament, according to Minister José Gonçalves.
“We are in the final phase of the socialization of the draft law”, he added, for whom the new law “will require” supervision and security, hence the measures envisaged as the “creation for soon” of an institute that will take care of the investigation of incidents and accidents connected to the sea and air, which will be based in São Vicente.
Likewise, the Government will “continue to focus on security” throughout the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the issue of illegal and unauthorized fishing.
