Mindelo, March 30 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Economy and Employment said today in Mindelo that 2017 will be the “pivotal year” for tourism in Cabo Verde, a sector that represents “almost a quarter of GDP” and did not deserve the “proper role”.
Jose Gonçalves, speaking at the opening this morning of the round table on “Urban, cultural and nautical tourism”, indicated that by 2030 the Government will be guided by the sustainable development of tourism, for its “transversality and immense importance” as a” fundamental resource” for the development of the country.
Hence a set of “structuring” measures that he announced, starting with the creation of the Tourism Institute, which he named as “the pillar” that will “guide and institutionalize” tourism and “place it within the space and place it deserves” regardless of adjustments in governance.
The future institute, he said, will also incorporate everything that is General Inspection of the Games in order to the institutional rationalization.
Another measure that has announced is the development of a strategic plan for the development of sustainable tourism lasting until 2030, which will guide tourism development at the national level in the next 14 years.
