Mindelo, Sep 11 (Inforpress) – The Governing Body of the Media Regulatory Authority (ARC) recently ruled that the presentation of musical festivals and galas “is incompatible under the law” by those who are practicing professional journalism.
Resolution 45 / CR-ARC / 2018, of August 7, responds to a request for an opinion requested by the director of Cabo Verde Radio (RCV), Humberto Santos, concerning the incompatibility of the practice of journalist with presentation of musical and cultural shows promoted by governmental and non-governmental organizations.
After considering the application and analyzing the legislation related to the subject under analysis, such as the Journalist’s Statute, Journalists’ Code of Ethics and the Advertising Code, ARC considered that “when cultural festivals and sports or cultural events aim at institutional promotion, commercial or communication of an organization, person or product, it is incompatible, by virtue of the law” its presentation by those who are practicing professional journalism.
Moreover, according to the same source in the document that we have been quoting, it appears from the analysis of the legislation that these incompatibilities apply to all journalists, regardless of their position.
