Santo Antão: Mayors applaud idea of recovering aerodrome in Ponta do Sol deactivated in the 90s for medical evacuations

Porto Novo, Jul 6 (Inforpress) – Agostinho Neto aerodrome in Ponta do Sol, Santo Antão, deactivated two decades ago, could be recovered to ensure evacuations of patients from this island, as announced by the Government.

The decision was welcomed by the Mayors from Santo Antão, who said they were also concerned about the medical evacuations issue from this island, currently made under difficult conditions by vessels.

Evacuations to São Vicente take place through the two ferryboats, but outside the scheduled times of these cargo and passenger vessels, and when emergencies so require, Coast Guard vessels are activated.

In a meeting with emigrants in mid-June, when the  evacuations issue in Santo Antão was raised, the mayor of Porto Novo said that this is a problem that has been in the order of the day on this island and is part of the agenda of the three Mayors.
