Santo Antão: Government and municipalities expect to solve problems of water, sanitation and urban requalification in two years

Porto Novo, Jun 27 (Inforpress) – The constraints that Santo Antão faces in terms of sanitation, water supply and urban requalification are expected to be resolved within two years within the program framework financed by the Government.

The program, which is to be implemented between the end of this year and the beginning of 2019, aims to solve, by 2020, the problem of management and treatment of sewage, as well as the improvement of water supply networks, but also the requalification of the seafront, investments to be around 1.5 million escudos.

In terms of sanitation, the Government has already confirmed the launch in December of the project for the extension and construction of the wastewater treatment plant in Porto Novo, information confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister Olavo Correia in his recent visit to Santo Antão this month of June.

By the end of 2018, the Government will also launch the project to improve water supply networks in the three municipalities. It is planned to reduce losses and improve the coverage of populations with piped water.

The mayor of Porto Novo, Aníbal Fonseca, said he believes that the effective start of the sewerage and construction works of the wastewater treatment plant will take place during the first three months of 2019.
