Santa Cruz: City Hall makes delivery of gravestones in honor of figures of Funaná and Batuco already deceased

Praia, Apr 3 (Inforpress) – The City Hall of Santa Cruz (Santiago Island) honors today “great figures” linked to the musical genres Funaná and Batuco, among them Sema Lopi, Antão Barreto and Nha Nácia Gomi, with the delivery of their restored gravestones in the Achada Igreja cemetery.

The act to be chaired by the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Abrãao Vicente, according to the Councilor for Culture, Jaquelino Varela, falls in the celebrations of March – month of Culture.

In statements to Inforpress, the mayor explained that the objective is to value and dignify the gravestones of these “figures unavoidable” in the history of Cabo Verdean music and culture.

As he advanced, in this first phase will be honored “the icons of Funaná and Batucu”, as Sema Lopi (1941-2013), Antão Barreto (1919-2017) and Nha Nacia Gomi (1924-2011).
