Rights: Cabo Verde highlights at conference in Canada, government and institutions support to LGBTI movements

Praia, Aug 10 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde participated, through ICIEG, at the Global Conference on LGBTI Human Rights and Inclusive Development of the Equal Rights Coalition where it highlighted the government and institutions support to national social movements for the reinforcement of LGBTI rights.

Participating in the conference, which ran from 5 to 7 in Vancouver, Canada, the president of the Cabo Verde Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG) highlighted the country’s major milestones in this area and the creation of the Pride Parade, and accession in 2015 to the United Nations “Free and Equal” campaign.

During her stay in Canada, Rosana Almeida, accompanied by the coordinator of the Free and Equal Cabo Verde Campaign, Samori Araújo, met with the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality of Portugal, the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science and the President of the Directorate General for Equality of Treatment and Diversity of Spain.

At the meeting, which brought together some 300 people from the 38 countries that make up the Equal Rights Coalition, the ICIEG president joined the Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor of Canada, Scott Busby to address some questions on the LGBTI theme.
