Praia, Feb 26 (Inforpress) – Márcio Fernandes, a Cabo Verdean international Paralympic athlete, World Champion at the Javelin throw, will be in the history of Cabo Verdean sport and the world as one of the biggest Paralympic athletes in Cabo Verde.
Jorge Carlos Fonseca, in a letter to the athlete following the announcement last week of the end of his sports career as a high level athlete representing Cabo Verde, expressed his gratitude for having represented the Cabo Verdean nation so brilliantly.
“With surprise, I received your message announcing the end of your sports career as a high level athlete representing Cabo Verde and, with a mix of emotion, I am writing to express to you how gratifying we were the honor that gave us for having represented this small Nation of great soul, so brilliantly,” wrote the President of the Republic.
Jorge Carlos Fonseca also said that he has always recognized in Márcio Fernandes an example of dedication, discipline and overcoming that stand out as a human being and athlete of excellence, with a marked influence on the citizens of this country and the whole world.
“We are therefore deeply grateful for the happiness that he has brought to the Cabo Verdean people, during his brilliant sports career put to our service, where he won the most important awards in his modality, rendering an invaluable contribution to the international projection of this country and Cabo Verdean sport,” he said.
