PR says presidency has been marked by “permanent speech” of “defense and promotion” of the Constitution

Praia, Aug 22 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, said Tuesday that his seven years of office were marked by a “permanent speech” on the “defense and promotion” of the Constitution of the Republic, constitutional culture and democracy.

In the balance of his seven years as President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca assured that the fundamental axes of his action were always guided in his global slogan of the 2011 electoral campaign, that was the Constitution of the Republic and “A President next to the people”.

“If I were to deploy these ideas it would be the promotion of democracy, democratic ideas, strengthening of culture, democracy, independent justice, more autonomous civil society, freer press and a fairer, more inclusive and more equal country with less regional asymmetries and less social inequalities”, said the PR.

However, he acknowledged that there were negative aspects, mainly because, despite warning for the reduction of regional asymmetries, these goals “are far from being achieved”.

“It means that my speech to this purpose, my dialogue with the Government, the City Halls and society has not had the effects that I would like, and therefore, in the three years to the end of my mandate these are aspects that should deserve special attention from the President of the Republic”, Fonseca promised, stressing, however, that there has been “progress from the point of view of mobilizing resources for local power”.
