Porto Novo, Aug 28 (Inforpress) – Good prospects open to irrigated agriculture in Porto Novo, Santo Antão, thanks to the projects, some of which are already in the final phase, aiming at equipping the boreholes in this county with photovoltaic systems for the water production.
More than 400 agricultural families will benefit from the projects funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA), which will allow, in the next three to four months, to provide all the boreholes with solar panel, allowing the water cost to be drastically reduced to agriculture.
In Ribeira dos Bodes, one of the valleys covered by the projects, which are part of the programs for the promotion of rural socio-economic opportunities (Poser) and drought mitigation, about two dozen families also have water this week cheaper for watering.
For local farmers, the drilling equipment in the Poio zone with photovoltaic system, which opens on Friday, will bring “a new impetus” to agricultural activity in this area, where some farmers were abandoning their plots due to the high cost of water.
Also, in Ribeira Fria, many farmers will have, within days, at their disposal water at a low price, according to the delegate of MAA in Porto Novo, Joel Barros.
