Porto Novo: Families prepare for first harvests of integrated agriculture project

Porto Novo, Jul 6 (Inforpress) – The 20 families, with land plots within the framework of the integrated modern agriculture project of Porto Novo, Santo Antão, are “satisfied” with the results already achieved, hoping “within a short time”, proceed to the first harvests.

The project, which benefits 20 low-income families, is co-financed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) in seven million escudos, through the “Opportunities” Program (Poser), and has as its main partner the City Hall of Porto Novo, wich already made available three hectares of land to families.

The project, which is located on the outskirts of the City of Porto Novo, is also part of the program on urban and periurban agriculture in Cabo Verde, financed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), at about 265,000 dollars

The families, which have at their disposal a borehole equipped with photovoltaic system, a 50-tonne reservoir and a drip irrigation system, have been sowing for two months and are satisfied at this point with the results, waiting, soon , start having the first crops.
