Maio Isand: FMB completes preparations for sea turtle protection campaign

Porto Inglês, Jun 20 (Inforpress) – The Maio Biodiversity Foundation is finalizing preparations for this year’s sea turtle protection campaign, with a new law criminalizing the harvesting and consumption of turtle meat.

Speaking to Inforpress, Leno dos Passos, the patrol leader for sea turtles at the Maio Biodiversity Foundation (FMB), said that they have already completed training with team leaders, and from now on, they will be placed in the communities where they will work.

Regarding the guards, he said that they, as well as the community associations representatives, started training today, so by the end of the month, they could actually start the campaign on the ground.

Leno dos Passos said he was anxious to see the applicability of the new law criminalizing the consumption and marketing of turtle meat, which came into force last May.
