Assomada, Aug 2 (Inforpress) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) delegation is in the process of distributing seed to more than 2.500 farmers in Santa Catarina (2098) and São Salvador do Mundo (466) in Santiago.
In statements to Inforpress, MAA delegate from the two municipalities, Gracelino Semedo, reported that the free distribution of seeds (maize and beans) began in the highlands, followed by wetlands and semi-humid areas during this month.
Altogether there are about five thousand liters of beans and 12.778 liters of corn corresponding to 58 drums, bought at 200 and 150 escudos liters, respectively.
According to the official, Picos Acima and Rebelo Acima (São Salvador do Mundo) and Figueira das Naus and Serra Malagueta (Santa Catarina) are the localities, whose farmers have already received this seed kit.
In these two municipalities, the 2018/19 agricultural campaign has already started, but most of the peasants are still awaiting for the rain to throw seeds to the ground, in fact it is also the MAA recommendations.
