Praia, March 27 (Inforpress) – The Government will introduce public policies and proactive measures of awareness and socialization that will allow greater women’s participation in the leadership of sports federations and associations and in the management of infrastructures.
The guarantee was given by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, during the opening of the 1st workshop on “Women’s Leadership in Sport”, which runs from 27 to 29 this month at Praia City.
He added that 90 percent (%) of sports associations and federations in Cabo Verde are led by men, which shows that there is a huge deficit in women’s participation in various sports.
“In a society such as ours and globally where there is a lack of participation and leadership of women in key sectors, there is also a deficit in the full potential, but especially in the economy, where situation of unemployment and poverty and with overload of family positions,” he said.
In his view, it is necessary to introduce public policy measures and mechanisms of greater balance, but also proactive measures of raising awareness and socialization in order to have greater participation, proactivity and parity in the representation of women in sports leadership.
