Government proposes to invest 4.7 billion escudos in waste management – ANAS administrator

Praia, Aug 10 (Inforpress) – The Government will invest 4.7 billion escudos in the construction and rehabilitation of waste treatment and recovery infrastructures, closure and relocation of municipal dumps and support municipalities in their management.

The information was released Thursday by the executive administrator of the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANAS), Inácio Pereira, during a press conference in the City of Praia where he addressed the issue of waste treatment and management in the rainy season, underlining that this investment is included in the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development (PEDS) for the 2016-2021 horizon.

As explained, of the 4.7 billion escudos, 160 million escudos are to support local projects in terms of waste management, 300 million for the closure, relocation and re-qualification of municipal dumps in Santiago Island and 4.2 billion escudos for construction and rehabilitation of waste treatment and recovery infrastructures.

“The resources to implement these investments will be mobilized from internal sources and from our main development partners”, said Inácio Pereira, stressing that ANAS has been implementing a series of actions focused at improving waste management and sanitation that contribute to the protection of the environment and to the improvement of the living conditions of the populations.
