Government announces OPEC / OFID financing for cruise terminal for the São Vicente Island

Praia, Mar 23 (Inforpress) – The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance announced Thursday that the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) will make available about 29 million euros to finance the cruise terminal in the São Vicente Island.

Olavo Correia made the announcement during a signing ceremony of 15 million loan agreement to finance Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Cabo Verde Government and the World Bank in the City of Praia.

This project, a partnership between the Ministry of Economy and Employment and Finance, according to the official, will be important to São Vicente, but also to boost Cabo Verde as a destination for cruise tourism.

“That is a total of about EUR 29 million, a significant amount for the São Vicente Island, along with the private projects that are also being finalized. I think we will be able to create a different framework for São Vicente, which deserves and which has all the conditions to be an island of development,” he emphasized.

Without advancing a specific date, the minister indicated, however, that he will later go to Washington (United States of America) to sign the contracts and at another stage will launch the tender, and only then will pass the information related to the execution period of the cruise terminal.
