Praia, Dec 6 (Inforpress) – The Government announces next week the name of Cabo Verde’s candidate for the presidency of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States, said Tuesday the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities.
“The name of Cabo Verde’s candidate for ECOWAS presidency will be known when the Prime minister understands, but it will have to be before the Heads of State Summit scheduled for December 16 in Abuja, Nigeria, and it also depends on the negotiations we are doing,” said Luís Filipe Tavares, adding that next week the Government will address the matter at the meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The ruler who spoke to the press after presiding over the opening of the first edition of the Open Days – Contemporary Challenges of Public International Law, held at City of Praia, on 5, 6 and 12 this month, acknowledged that it will be a “great honor” for the archipelago, for ECOWAS and for the international community, Cabo Verde to preside over the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States.
“Since the presidency is in alphabetical order, this is Cabo Verde’s turn and we are presenting our candidacy that will be submitted at the Heads of State Summit” revealed appealing to the serenity and greater responsibility on these issues, which in his understanding must be treated by the Government in order to defend the interests of the archipelago that is above all else.
