Fogo Island: Wine cellar / Sodade Cooperative can register production decrease around 40 to 50 percent


São Filipe, Aug 8 (Inforpress) – The wine cellar / Sodade Cooperative from the Achada Grande, Relva and Corvo (Mosteiros) winemakers forecasts a reduction of 40 to 50 percent (%) in this year production in relation to last year, said the person in charge Eduino Lopes.

This processing plant started the harvest two weeks ago, on July 24, about a month after the winery / Chã Cooperative started the process, and the manager said to Inforpress that there has been a pest in the grapes which left around half of production unsuitable for wine production.

Winemakers from the Mosteiros highlands produce white and rosé wines at their Achada Grande plant, with the process almost complete, and the red wine in the wine cellar in Chã das Caldeiras, after the destruction of the unit by the lavas of the volcanic eruption, because its fermentation process and the whole production demanding more.

At the moment, the winery / Sodade Cooperative, mainly its president who has a plot inside the Caldeira (Ilhéu de Losna), continues in the middle of harvest and estimates that it may take another two or three weeks to complete the harvest and the first stage of the red wine production.
