Praia, Aug 30 (Inforpress) – The president of the Cabo Verdean Association of Nutritionists (ACNUT), Alzerina Monteiro, and the expert in Risk Assessment, Edson Santos, call attention for the consuming food from gardens watered with sewage water because can cause food poisoning.
These reactions follow an interview given to Inforpress by the delegate of Health of Praia, on August 10, where he denounced the existence of gardens watered with sewage water in areas surrounding of the City of Praia.
According to the president of the Cabo Verdean Association of Nutritionists, one of the risks is contagion by the bacterium Escherichia coli that is transmitted through water contaminated with feces and can cause people “many health problems” including food poisoning.
“The most common symptoms are diarrhea, moreover it causes nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, some colic and fever. But depending on the bacteria can have severe cases of intoxication that can lead a person to paralyze some members”, explained Alzerina Monteiro.
