Death / Daniel Alves: “Nhô Sopa” one of the figures of the flags in the Fogo Island passed away

São Filipe,  Sep 3 (Inforpress) – Daniel Alves, better known as “Nhô Sopa”, one of the figures of the traditional festival of the flags in Fogo Island, passed away today at the São Francisco de Assis regional hospital, where he had been hospitalized for more than one month.

Nhô Sopa, described as an “extraordinary party maker” of the traditional flag festivals, learned this art in his adolescence at the age of 14 and has always been present at the celebrations celebrated in the city of São Filipe, from St Sebastian, St Philip, St. John and St. Peter.

As a figure of the traditional festivities of the flag, he represented the Fogo Island in some cultural activities in other islands, as “party maker”, but also as a dancer of “Canisade” a kind of genuine dance of the island and that is part of the ritual of the flags.

Nhô Sopa was a sanitation worker from the City Hall of São Filipe and a well-known figure in the city, as well as in the Fogo Island.
