Construction of the EllaLink submarine cable system started this week

Praia, Jan 10 (Inforpress) – EllaLink and Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) today announced the start up of construction of the submarine cable system scheduled to begin operations in 2020 to meet the demand for traffic between Europe and Latin America.

This project, of which Cabo Verde Telecom is part, is a submarine cable of four pairs of fiber of last generation, “with great importance for Cabo Verde”, which connects data centers in Madrid, Lisbon, Marseille, Fortaleza and São Paulo, and will provide express submarine connectivity and offer the first ever pair of fibers directly between the two continents.

The chairman of Cabo Verde Telecom’s (PCA) board of directors, quoted in a press release issued by the company’s Communications and Image Office, which Inforpress had access to, said: “Cabo Verde enjoys a unique geopolitical position in the Atlantic, equidistant between Europe and Latin America and close to the African Coast, with a stable and solid commitment to order and democracy, making it the ideal hub for interconnecting those territories”.

José Luís Livramento explained at the time that “EllaLink has worked side by side with CVTelecom over the last few years to ensure that Cabo Verde benefits from this unique opportunity to secure and enhance its highly competitive international connectivity.
