Civil Movement for Responsible Communities launches public petition against dog slaughter

Praia, Aug 14 (Inforpress) – The Civil Movement for Responsible Communities (MCCR) has an online petition, which is already running in about 600 signatures, in a space of four days, against the “execution of animals (dogs) indiscriminately and punctually”.

“The current situation of uncontrolled canine reproduction in the various municipalities of Cabo Verde is dramatic and results from the absence of sustainable public policies that may contribute to reducing the reproductive capacity of this species”, said the petition, which states that “is also due to the lack of ways to promote the population’s awareness of the need to be part of this solution”.

The petition requires municipal authorities to draw up, approve and implement a permanent canine population control program in consultation with animal welfare and veterinary associations and to seek support from organizations and NGOs in order to be “ethically castration, de-worming and raise awareness among population about the treatment, care and control of reproduction. ”

Furthermore, the drafting, approval and implementation of a law to protect animals in line with international standards and universal rights, and under the legislation any practice that endangers the lives and physical and psychological integrity of animals is prohibited, like fights or other practices.
