Airport Security Fee: Government is transferring the costs of visa waive to Cabo Verdeans – PAICV

Praia, Aug 22 (Inforpress) – The PAICV today considered that with the implementation of the Airport Security Tax (TSA), the Government intends to recover lost revenues with visa waive, passing costs of “unpredictable and poorly calculated”  measure to Cabo Verdeans.

At a press conference in Praia, the secretary general of the African Party of Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV – Opposition party), Julião Varela, pointed out that the Government abdicated, freely and without anyone’s request, more than 20 million euros, with visa waive to tourists from the European Union and the United Kingdom.

“It has taken this step without doing the accounts, without calculating the impacts and forgetting that there is still a country that needs the resources to continue its development process. Now, having made the accounts, calculated the impacts and acknowledged the error, the Government decides the easy way. Wash their hands and transfer to the passengers responsibility to ensure the recovery of these 20 million euros”, he said.

Julião Varela goes further and says that this fee, to be charged from January 2019, is to bear costs that have nothing to do with services provided to civil aviation and passengers.
