Praia, July 7 (Inforpress) – The European Union (UE) and Cabo Verde signed a five-million-euro, European financing agreement, in Praia today for the project “Strengthening the Forestry Sector’s Capacities and Resilience in Cabo Verde”.
According to a note sent to Inforpress, the project, which will also be implemented and financed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) with the amount of 133 thousand euros, will last four years and will be carried out in the islands of Boa Vista, Fogo and Santiago.
The main objective of the project, according to the same note, is to increase resilience and strengthen the country’s capacity to adapt to the additional risks posed by climate change, such as desertification and land degradation in Cabo Verde.
Reducing desertification and land degradation through a participatory approach to promote efficient management of natural resources as well as promoting reforestation and renaturalization of forest areas are other objectives that are desired with this project.
