Santa Maria, 16 Jul (Inforpress) – The Prime Minister said today in Sal that the important challenge of eliminating extreme poverty and reducing relative poverty is closely linked to food security, and it is eliminated through assertive public policies.
Ulisses Correia e Silva made the remarks at the 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the Food and Nutrition Security Council (CONSAN), which he chaired, which is taking place today in the city of Santa Maria, on the fringes of the Conference of Heads of State and of Government of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which will take place on July 17 and 18 under the theme “Culture, People and Oceans”.
“Therefore, we can not in any way fail in the march and in the conviction that it is possible and essential to eliminate extreme poverty through assertive public policies and social, economic and territorial”, he said.
And it is with this conviction, reiterated the head of the executive, that the CPLP Cabo Verde presidency program will include the strengthening of CONSAN in the list of priorities in the mandate for the next two years.
Considering that the country is in the transition phase in terms of food and nutritional security, Ulisses Correia e Silva pointed out, however, that 20 percent (%) of rural families are affected by food insecurity.
