Mindelo, Jan 8 (Inforpress) – The Friends Association of the Cabo Verde and Italy (Kriol-Ità) today concluded a 15-day medical mission to the São Vicente hospital, during which it performed more than 300 ophthalmologic surgeries.
The information was released today by the president of the association, Maria Silva, who justified the arrival of this medical mission of Italian specialists in ophthalmology in the wake of a partnership signed in April last year with the Baptist de Sousa Hospital (HBS), an institution with a waiting list of 700 patients aged between one and 100 years who were waiting for cataract surgeries.
“When we were contacted by HBS, our partner, we were here on a Urology mission, our first in Cabo Verde, and we signed a partnership in which we commit ourselves to bring a medical teams on a regular basis according to the requests. And in this case, HBS asked us for help in ophthalmology, because they had a huge waiting list and they had no ability to respond,” said the same source.
According to Maria Silva, at least more than 300 people from all the islands of the Barlavento benefited from surgeries that began on December 28 and covered the weekends and holidays with an “ambitious and tireless” program, to minimize the waiting list of the hospital.
