Praia, July 17 (Inforpress) – The president of the Cabo Verdean African Party of Independence (PAICV), in the opposition, was elected vice-president of the Socialist International, announced the party this Sunday which this weekend has convened in its National Council at Praia.
The election of Janira Hopffer Almada took place at the Socialist International Council meeting, which took place on July 11 and 12 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
“This is unequivocally an extraordinary gain for Cabo Verde, for the PAICV and for the leader, since this election represents the ascension to the highest position ever occupied by a political party in Cabo Verde in the international arena, and also the highest position that the PAICV has achieved worldwide in its long run in the Socialist International,” said the party in a statement.
For the PAICV, the Janira Hopffer Almada election as vice-president of the Socialist International at the global level means “a great recognition” of the country and the party, for which “the contribution of the few women to take the leadership of a historical party “.
