Porto Novo, Sep 19 (Inforpress) – Farmers in Manuel Lopes and Chã de Norte, in Porto Novo, Santo Antão, say they are facing “an increasingly difficult life” given the loss of all production, a situation that was due to damaging in the respective boreholes.
In Manuel Lopes, according to the farmers’ representative, Aquiles Barbosa, the losses are “enormous”, exceeding four million escudos, reason why he defends the Government “solidarity” with the 16 farmers who lost all their production.
The situation was due to a failure in the pumping system of the borehole in that locality which since May is inoperative waiting for new equipment, already ordered.
The delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) in Porto Novo, Joel Barros, believes that “in a little while” the situation will be normalized in Manuel Lopes.
In Chã de Norte, according to the president of the local community association, Ivanildo Dias, also one of the farmers affected, since August, by the shortage of water that “disrupted” the agricultural production in that area.
