Praia, Sep 11 (Inforpress) – The president of the board of the Agostinho Neto Hospital (HAN), Júlio Andrade, said today that all taxpayers should increase their cost sharing in health care so that they have “first rate health”.
The challenge was launched in the City of Praia, at the end of a guided visit to the services of Pediatrics, Surgery and the Dialysis Center, following the denunciation of the newspaper “A Nação”, in which the president of the Renal Patients Association states that the Center for Dialysis does not have physical conditions and medicines for kidney treatments.
Júlio Andrade said that in six years Cabo Verde will have an average of 300 patients with renal insufficiency and that in the face of the high cost of treatment and the reduced hospital budget, the expenses will have to be borne by society as a whole, increase the tax.
“If we want first rate health, we have to pay more. We may not want to have first rate health and zero cost. If we do not raise taxes, we must increase our contribution to the costs of health care”, said Júlio Andrade, who added that the annual average cost of treating a kidney patient is between 1.7 and 2.0 million escudos and covers medicines, consumables for monitors.
He revealed that at this time the center has 140 patients and they only pay a fee of 100 or 200 escudos for consultations and analyzes.
