Paralympic: Gracelino Barbosa becomes 100m world champion in Thailand

Praia, May 16 (Inforpress) – The Cabo Verdean international Paralympian athlete Gracelino Barbosa won today’s world champion in the 100 meters competition in the T-20 (handicapped) category in his debut for the 2017 World Championship, which takes place in Bangkok, Thailand.

In a race held at the Suphachalasai Stadium, Gracelino Barbosa showed all his determination and speed to triumph in the final, thus winning the gold medal.

The Cabo Verdean international shared the podium with a Russian athlete (2nd) and another from Iran. In addition to the 100-meter competition, Barbosa will compete in the 200- and 400-meter categories in Bangkok.

This is the first participation of Gracelino Barbosa after winning the bronze medal at the 15th Paralympic Games Rio 2016, with the time of 48:55 seconds in the race of 400 meter category T20 (intellectual handicapped) in August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
