Number of guests increased by 9.5% in the second quarter of 2018 over the same period – INE

Praia, Aug 13 (Inforpress) – The number of guests in the country increased by 9.5% (%) in the second quarter of 2018 compared to the same quarter and overnight stays grew 9.3% in the same period, reports today the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

According to tourism statistics on guest movement in the second quarter of this year, the United Kingdom was the main country of tourist arrivals (25.1%) of the total entrances, followed by Portugal (12.1%), Germany (11.4%), France (10%), Belgium and the Netherlands (9.2%).

In the case of overnight stays, the United Kingdom ranked first with 33.7% of the total, followed by Germany with 12.7%, Belgium and the Netherlands with 10.7%, Portugal and France with 8.4%. Residents in Cabo Verde accounted for about 8.2% of admissions and 3.9% of overnight stays.

English tourists were the ones who stayed the longest in Cabo Verde, with an average stay of 8.5 nights, just as the Sal Island was the most sought after, with about 55% of overnight stays in hotels.

According to the INE, the data accumulated in the period from January to June 2018 show that hotel establishments registered more than 383 thousand guests and about 2.4 million overnight stays, which are translated in increases in the entrances and in the nights, both of 10% over the same period last year.
