Praia, Sep 4 (Inforpress) – The Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries challenges designers, artisans, architects and creatives in Cabo Verde and the Diaspora to present a design project for the “Boka Panu” competition until September 28.
The competition “Boka Panu” (traditional weaving technique) takes place within the scope of URDI 2018 – Handicraft and Design Fair of Cabo Verde. The selected projects will be part of the Design Created Hall in Cabo Verde, which will take place from November 28 to December 2, the date of URDI 2018.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Boka Panu is a structural element in traditional clothhandcraft weaving and is significant for the nomenclature of the Design Created Hall in Cabo Verde, as a starting point to create, weave, redesign and propose new formal approaches, starting from the traditional matrix.
“We expect with these projects a reflection on the thematic and creative source of Cabo Verdean clothmaking, as a mode of handicraft with a strong identity burden in the ancestry of the nation”, reads the statement issued by the Ministry of Culture.
