Praia, Mar 1 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Health and Social Solidarity, Arlindo do Rosário, confirmed Wednesday that a survey is under way to identify the virus that caused the outbreak of influenza and respiratory infections in Cabo Verde in the last days.
Arlindo do Rosário, who spoke to journalists after a visit to the National Social Security Institute (INPS), said that so far, the flu that has affected thousands of people in the country has been considered normal.
However, he added that the survey being carried out by the Epidemiological Surveillance Services and the Pasteur Institute in Dakar is to confirm if the flu virus is in fact the same as it was indicated at this time of year.
“At this time of year, the type of virus that causes these flusions – rotavirus – is usually indicated. Having this increase of cases that also has a very clear cause we should have an identification and that is what the Ministry of Health through the surveillance services and with the help of the Pasteur Institute is doing,” he said.
