Minister of Foreign Affairs wants greater control over the migration process in Cabo Verde

Praia, Jul 24 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities, Luís Filipe Tavares, defended today that it is necessary to control the migratory flow of Cabo Verde to the foreigner, since the country can not be seen as emitter of illegal migration.

The head of Cabo Verdean diplomacy spoke to the press in the margins of the meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions and heads of consular posts, which has been taking place since Monday in Praia.

Asked about the immigrants who were rescued on a drifting boat in Brazil, from Cabo Verde, Luís Filipe Tavares said that the case “is punctual”, but in the meantime it is necessary to take vigorous measures in this direction.

“Cabo Verde is both a country of origin, destination and transit. It is a one-off case that happened and all the measures have already been taken”, he said, noting that there is an ongoing investigation to ascertain the responsibilities, since, according to him, the country “can not appear” in the eyes of the world as “emitter of illegal migration”.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communities said that Cabo Verde will have to work with the partners to combat this problem, given the vulnerability it presents.
