Members of the new government led by Ulisses Correia e Silva take office today

Praia, Jan 05 (Inforpress) – The members of the new government, led by José Ulisses Correia e Silva, are taking office today in Praia, in a ceremony to be presided over by the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, at the Palace of the Presidency.

The new Government, the second of this legislature, came out from the government reestructuring, now has two new ministers and six assistant secretaries of state, who join the 11 ministers, as well as the Prime Minister, who took office on April 20, 2016.

This is the first change of the government team and will have a financial impact of 32 million escudos. Ulisses Correia e Silva, who did not bet on the replacement of any of the ministers who were already part of the government team, said he is satisfied with their performance, so they will continue their duties.

According to the Prime minister, this proposal, which was accepted by the President of the Republic, is in the sense of continuing to be an “effective government, which has greater efficiency and a higher level of coordination.”

“This reestructuring has been prepared for some time and the Government remains small enough and we added only two ministers and we have more (6) secretaries of state and these will be all assistant secretaries and not as Secretaries of the State Secretariat. We want to strengthen economic coordination, strengthen political coordination and improve governance effectiveness and efficiency,” said the prime minister.
