São Filipe, May 15 (Inforpress) – The Portuguese Ministry of the Environment will make available almost one million euro, about 110 billion escudos, to Cabo Verde for implementation in 2018 of five projects in the environmental sector.
The amount is part of a cooperation agreement on water resources, waste and climate change and the action plan, held today in São Filipe, between the Environment Ministers of Portugal and Cabo Verde, João Pedro Matos and Gilberto Silva, respectively.
According to the action plan, the Ministry of the Environment will provide a financing of € 921,477 for the implementation of five projects lasting between seven and nine months, proposed by the Cabo Verdean side. The roadmap for the establishment of a policy prevention and management of water use in situations of scarcity, technical assistance project to improve resilience and environmental performance in the water supply system of the City of Praia and the quality of the Águas de Santiago service, management plan for reservoirs (river basins), dams safety plan and solid waste route (Maio and São Nicolau islands) are the planned actions in the agreement and action plan for 2018, worth more than 900 thousand euros.
At the time of signing the document, Cabo Verde’s Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, highlighted the fact that the cooperation between the two ministries was “very fruitful” because, he said, “a lot of pragmatism” was printed in this cooperation and doubled the financial envelope for 2017.
