São Filipe, Sep 6 (Inforpress) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) plans to set up more than 20.000 plants of forest, endemic and forage species in various parts of the island in this year’s reforestation campaign.
The island’s MAA delegate, Jaime Ledo de Pina, told Inforpress that enough rainfall had already fallen to start the planting campaign.
The official said that the Ministry, through various projects, will provide a total of 20.645 of plants, which will be affixed mainly by community development associations.
According to him, under the “reforestation capacity and resilience in the forestry sector in Cabo Verde” (REFLOR-CV) project it has produced about 11 thousand forest plants of species such as Cupressus sp, Pinus Canariensis and Grevilea, and endemic such as Gasteria armstrongii, lorna, and Euphorbia tuckeyana, which will be planted by community associations in the forest area of Monte Velha.
