Cabo Verde on alert due the increase of West Nile fever in Europe

Praia, Sep 4 (Inforpress) – Cabo Verde is on alert with the increase in West Nile fever that is invading Europe as a disease caused by the mosquito bite in the country, said the national director of Health today.

In statements to Inforpress, Artur Correia said that in this situation, the role of the Ministry of Health is to ensure that the density of the vectors is at a low level so that there is no risk of transmission.

“All our efforts to do in-house spraying, keeping communities clean and fighting mosquito breeding sites is to keep the vector density low and to help reduce the risk of transmission”, said.

According to Artur Correia, people who speak of the Nile fever virus may also add yellow fever, dengue fever, chikungunya, malaria, that is, a set of mosquito-borne diseases in the country, and the archipelago “is doomed” to ensure the vector density at a level below the linear of the epidemic.

Cabo Verde, according to the official, is connected to an international network in which it receives up-to-date information on the disease through the International Health Regulations so that it can be ready to take action if a possible Nile virus contamination enters the country.
